  • We will be assisting the Nestor United Methodist Church for the 27th year, as they open their church for a 2-week rotation in the Interfaith Shelter Network. The Network is a nationwide, ecumenical outreach project that provides food, shelter, and job-hunting skills to homeless people in the county. Our church will provide overnight hosts on Thursday, March 28th, Tuesday, April 2nd, and Friday, April 5th. If you would be able to help with a meal for any of those nights, please sign up on the list in Fellowship Hall. See Susan Namba for more details.

  • BOM will purchase donuts, bagels, and fruit from Hospitality Fund in lieu of lunch next Sunday, March 24th. This light snack will be provided in lieu of regular lunches in months where a 5th Sunday occurs. This will help to extend the Hospitality rotation frequency of regularly scheduled lunches, since it will not require a Hospitality group’s services.

  • Between now and Easter, the Elderberries are collecting shirts, shorts and underwear of any size. They can be gently used or new, and men's clothing is especially appreciated. Please place your items in the box marked “Uptown” in the narthex. Thank you!

  • POVUCC and UCUC 4th-6th graders will join together to make toys for the animals at San Diego Humane Society. We will meet in the POVUCC Fellowship Hall, Sunday March 10th from 1 pm - 2pm. Feel free to bring any 4th-6th grade friends, and materials will be provided! Sarah can answer any questions at faith@povucc.org.

  • Robert Valiente-Neighbours has organized a Lenten film series that will tie in to this year’s Lenten theme, “Wilderness.” The format will include a potluck, film and discussion from 6-9 pm weekly on Fridays in the Fellowship Hall beginning March 8. The film that night is Son of Man, a powerful retelling of the gospel that places Jesus in the story in a modern wilderness. It's one of the best translations of the life of Jesus that attends to the social and political contexts of scripture as well as the temptations of empire. Please mark your calendars now and plan to join us!

  • All college-age folks are invited to a conversation on “God and Global Warming” on March 7 at 8:00pm at Panera Bread, 5620 Balboa Ave, 92117. Pastries and cookies will be provided. For more information, contact Sarah Howell at faith@povucc.org.
