  • Whether you are already a church member, or considering joining, or just curious to know more about the United Church of Christ, POVUCC, and what membership actually means, you are invited to join Pastor Mary Sue for an “Inquiring and Exploring” session after church on Sunday, February 2nd in the Benson Building (location of the church office).

  • Please join us on Sunday, February 2nd as we welcome children of all ages to fully experience worship alongside their families in the sanctuary. On this day, we will dedicate our new “PRAYGROUND,” a special area located at the front of the sanctuary. This area will allow children to remain with us during the service while expressing worship and prayer in uniquely childlike ways. Let’s live out our UCC motto of “no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.” Join us for this special time of celebration, as we learn and grow together!

  • Beginning February 2nd, POVUCC will begin a year-long exploration of the Bible using a book called The Story: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People. The authors took excerpts from the Old and New Testaments and placed them in narrative order, so that the text reads as one continuous story. Each Sunday (with some breaks for Easter, Pentecost, and summer), Pastor Mary Sue will use a chapter from The Story as the beginning point for her sermon. The Story espouses a more theologically conservative perspective than our UCC denomination, so we will hold its content in dialogue with other perspectives and interpretations.

  • ProduceGood organizes community volunteers to upcycle thousands of pounds of produce each week to feed San Diego's food insecure. • We are planning to make 2020 the “Year of the Bible;” youth and adults alike, studying and exploring the text and stories from as many perspectives as possible. We will utilize a book entitled The Story to help us familiarize ourselves with the main narrative of the Hebrew Bible and New Testament. Pastor Mary Sue will preach on the book’s chapters, and all will be invited to engage with the stories. As The Story represents a more conservative theological perspective than our UCC denomination espouses, we will note the different ways that Scripture has been interpreted (and misinterpreted, at times), and the ways those interpretations have been used in harmful ways. We are excited for the year of exploration ahead, as we learn and grow together. God is still speaking, so here’s to listening and growing together in 2020!
