Board of Ministries Update

November 2021

A couple of days ago San Diego got some rain.  It was so great to have the rain freshen everything up!  It was also a reminder that we’re coming to the end of the year.  I’m a bit conflicted as I don’t want time to go any faster, but I also want to get to a sense of normalcy.  Traditions help to feel that sense of belonging and permanence.

CCSA is back to having their annual Christmas basket program.  I have noticed that our clients at Veteran’s Village San Diego are mostly single men.  I am endeavoring to have each veteran adopted for Christmas.  I’ll give more information about this in the future.

As we head into winter, POVUCC is also planning to head back inside to our beautiful sanctuary.  This will bring along some challenges of its own.  I’m so grateful to everyone who has been volunteering for Sunday services and would gladly accept any new volunteers as well.  Ron Eng is assisting BOM with a technical solution to volunteer sign-ups.  Once it is available, you will be able to see the Volunteer Schedule on-line and see where there is a need.  Thanks Ron!

Speaking of people who volunteer, I just want to say again how grateful I am to all of the folks who continue to step in and help week after week!  I am so appreciative of the time that you give as well as your patience with me!  Believe it or not, there’s an art to keeping all of the schedules humming.  Unfortunately, I was not blessed in this way, but everyone is so patient with me that I feel supported by my church family.

Another quick word before I sign off here.  If you have jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies or other warm outer wear, CCSA is accepting clothing again and our homeless guys in Pacific Beach would be grateful.  Also, men, if you could take a glance through your tennis shoes: any that are in good shape can be used as well. Our unhoused do a lot of walking and their feet take a beating.  We were blessed with a very large sock donation and now we need some shoes to go with them.  Thanks!

In closing, I just want to relay that I’m overwhelmed by our church’s outreach to me and my nephew and his wife, Courtney.  As many of you heard, Cody and Courtney Campbell’s house was destroyed by a plane a couple of weeks ago.  The outpouring of love for them from our congregation is such a blessing!  I thank each one of you who have donated, said a prayer and sent good thoughts their way!

God bless,
Pam Crusberg

CREATION CARE TIP #36

You can help reduce waste and be good stewards of God’s creation by not buying fast fashion, i.e. clothing that is produced quickly and inexpensively, usually at the cost of the environment.
